2How does BlueHive pricing work?
BlueHive uses a transparent pay-per-service model. You pay only for the services you use, plus a 5% transaction fee. There are no setup fees, no monthly subscriptions, no contracts, and no minimum order requirements. Service prices vary by type and location but are displayed upfront before you place an order. Visit our pricing page for detailed pricing information.
3What is the difference between DOT and non-DOT drug testing?
DOT drug testing is federally regulated under 49 CFR Part 40 and applies to safety-sensitive employees governed by agencies like FMCSA, FAA, FRA, FTA, and PHMSA. DOT testing requires specific procedures, certified collectors, SAMHSA-accredited labs, and Medical Review Officer (MRO) verification. Non-DOT testing is employer-directed and can use broader panels, alternative specimen types, and customized cutoff levels. BlueHive supports both types and ensures full compliance with DOT chain-of-custody requirements.
4How many provider locations are in the BlueHive network?
Over 20,000 verified locations across all 50 U.S. states — including occupational health clinics, urgent care centers, hospital-affiliated labs, mobile testing units, and independent providers. That means your team stops spending time sourcing clinics. Whether you're placing a nurse in rural Montana or screening a new hire in downtown Chicago, there's a provider nearby. The average drive time is roughly 15 minutes in metro areas. Browse the network at our provider directory or search providers by location.
5What HRIS and payroll systems does BlueHive integrate with?
BlueHive integrates with 240+ HRIS, payroll, and applicant tracking systems including ADP, Workday, BambooHR, Gusto, Paychex, UKG, Paycom, Paylocity, SAP SuccessFactors, Oracle HCM, Ceridian Dayforce, Greenhouse, iCIMS, and many more. Integrations automatically sync employee data, trigger testing workflows, and update records — eliminating manual data entry. See the full list at our integrations page.
6How does BlueHive help with DOT compliance?
BlueHive provides end-to-end DOT compliance support: drug and alcohol policy templates, automated random testing pools (meeting FMCSA's 50%/10% annual rates), certified collector and MRO networks, electronic chain-of-custody documentation, Clearinghouse query tools, and complete audit-ready recordkeeping. The platform tracks expiration dates for CDL physicals and alerts you before certifications lapse. Visit Compliance Watch for the latest regulatory updates.

What is BlueHive?
BlueHive is an occupational health coordination platform that helps employers route orders, communicate with providers, receive results, and manage billing across 20,000+ provider locations in all 50 U.S. states. Employers use BlueHive to coordinate services like drug testing, DOT physicals, pre-employment screenings, and medical surveillance — tracking order status and handoffs from a single dashboard. Providers use BlueHive to receive orders, share results, and streamline billing.
Who is BlueHive designed for?
BlueHive serves two audiences: employers and occupational health providers. Employers — including HR directors, safety managers, and compliance officers — use BlueHive to manage workforce health programs. Providers — such as clinics, urgent care centers, and mobile testing companies — use the platform to receive and process occupational health orders. BlueHive supports companies of all sizes, from 10-person teams to enterprises with thousands of employees.
How is BlueHive different from other occupational health platforms?
BlueHive is the only occupational health platform purpose-built for coordination — combining a 20,000+ provider network, real-time order tracking, result sharing, 240+ HRIS integrations, and AI-powered documentation (Ozwell.ai) in a single platform. Unlike point solutions that only handle drug testing or only handle physicals, BlueHive coordinates 100+ occupational health service types. And unlike legacy vendors, BlueHive offers a modern pay-per-service model with no setup fees, no contracts, and no minimums.
How do I get started with BlueHive?
Getting started takes about 5 minutes. Visit bluehive.com/employers to create a free employer account, add your employees, and place your first order. No contracts, no setup fees, and no minimums required. If you prefer a guided walkthrough, you can schedule a demo with our team.
Is BlueHive HIPAA compliant?
Yes. BlueHive is fully HIPAA compliant and follows SOC 2 aligned security controls. All protected health information (PHI) is encrypted in transit and at rest using 256-bit AES encryption. Role-based access controls ensure that sensitive medical information is only visible to authorized users. BlueHive undergoes regular third-party security audits to maintain compliance.

What occupational health services does BlueHive offer?
BlueHive offers 100+ occupational health services including DOT and non-DOT drug testing (5-panel, 7-panel, 10-panel, 12-panel), DOT physicals, pre-employment physicals, breath alcohol testing, respirator fit testing, audiometry/hearing conservation, vision screening, TB testing, chest X-rays, vaccinations (Hepatitis B, Tdap, flu, MMR, and more), biometric screenings, functional capacity evaluations, and return-to-work clearances. Visit our services page for the complete list.
What drug test panels are available?
BlueHive supports all standard drug testing panels: 5-panel (the DOT standard, testing for marijuana, cocaine, opiates, amphetamines, and PCP), 7-panel, 9-panel, 10-panel (adds benzodiazepines, barbiturates, methadone, propoxyphene, and methaqualone), and 12-panel tests. We offer both laboratory-based and instant/rapid testing, as well as urine, hair follicle, oral fluid, and breath alcohol collection methods. All DOT testing follows 49 CFR Part 40 protocols.
How quickly are test results available?
Negative drug test results are typically available within 24–48 hours for lab-based tests. Instant/rapid tests deliver preliminary results in minutes. Results requiring Medical Review Officer (MRO) review may take an additional 1–2 business days. Physical exam results are often available the same day. All results are delivered directly to your BlueHive dashboard with real-time status tracking — no phone calls or faxes needed.
What is the difference between DOT and non-DOT drug testing?
DOT drug testing is federally regulated under 49 CFR Part 40 and applies to safety-sensitive employees governed by agencies like FMCSA, FAA, FRA, FTA, and PHMSA. DOT testing requires specific procedures, certified collectors, SAMHSA-accredited labs, and Medical Review Officer (MRO) verification. Non-DOT testing is employer-directed and can use broader panels, alternative specimen types, and customized cutoff levels. BlueHive supports both types and ensures full compliance with DOT chain-of-custody requirements.
How does BlueHive handle random drug testing programs?
BlueHive manages your entire random testing program from pool creation to selection notifications. The platform uses a scientifically valid random selection method that meets DOT requirements (50% annual rate for drugs, 10% for alcohol under FMCSA). Employees receive automated notifications, and results are tracked through your dashboard. BlueHive maintains complete audit trails for DOT inspections and keeps your program compliant year-round.
Can I order tests for employees in different states?
Yes. BlueHive operates a nationwide network of 20,000+ provider locations across all 50 states. When you place an order, BlueHive automatically identifies the nearest qualified providers to your employee's location. The average distance to a provider is approximately 15 minutes. You can order services for employees in any state from a single dashboard — no separate accounts or vendors needed.
What is a Medical Review Officer (MRO) and why is one needed?
A Medical Review Officer (MRO) is a licensed physician trained in substance abuse who reviews and interprets drug test results. MRO review is legally required for all DOT drug tests and is best practice for non-DOT workplace testing. The MRO contacts donors with non-negative results to determine legitimate medical explanations (such as valid prescriptions) before reporting a final result. BlueHive includes MRO review as a standard part of lab-based drug testing services.
What types of physical exams does BlueHive coordinate?
BlueHive coordinates DOT/CDL physicals (FMCSA-certified examiners), pre-employment physicals, annual/periodic physicals, HAZWOPER physicals, respirator medical evaluations, fitness-for-duty exams, return-to-work clearances, executive physicals, and preventive health exams. Each exam type follows the relevant regulatory standard and is documented through the BlueHive platform.

Our platform tracks surveillance schedules and sends automated reminders before deadlines.
Does BlueHive integrate with the FMCSA Clearinghouse?
Yes. BlueHive supports FMCSA Drug & Alcohol Clearinghouse requirements including pre-employment queries, annual queries for current CDL employees, and reporting of violations. The platform helps you maintain compliance with the Clearinghouse mandate that took effect in January 2020, which requires employers to query the database before hiring any CDL driver and annually for all current CDL employees.
Does BlueHive support industry-specific compliance requirements?
Yes. When you select your industry, BlueHive pre-configures the screening packages and compliance calendars your team actually needs — so you stop manually looking up requirements for every order. This covers transportation (FMCSA, FAA, FRA, FTA, PHMSA), construction (OSHA silica, lead, noise standards), healthcare (OSHA bloodborne pathogens, TB testing, immunizations), healthcare staffing (Joint Commission, CMS, facility-specific packages), manufacturing (hearing conservation, respiratory protection), and oil & gas (H2S safety, remote site testing).
How does the compliance calendar work?
BlueHive's compliance calendar tracks every recurring testing and screening requirement for your workforce. It sends automated reminders 30, 14, and 7 days before deadlines for CDL physical renewals, annual audiograms, random testing pool selections, vaccination boosters, and other scheduled services. Managers receive email and dashboard notifications so nothing falls through the cracks. View a sample at our compliance calendar page.
How does BlueHive protect employee health data?
BlueHive implements multiple layers of data protection: 256-bit AES encryption for data at rest and in transit, role-based access controls limiting PHI visibility to authorized personnel, HIPAA-compliant audit logging of all data access, SOC 2 aligned security controls, and secure data centers with 99.9% uptime. Medical results are only accessible to the employer's designated representatives — never to coworkers or unauthorized staff.

Over 20,000 verified locations across all 50 U.S. states — including occupational health clinics, urgent care centers, hospital-affiliated labs, mobile testing units, and independent providers. How do I find a provider near my employees?
You don't have to. When you place an order, BlueHive automatically matches the nearest qualified provider based on your employee's or clinician's ZIP code and the service required. No Googling clinics, no calling to confirm availability, no hoping they run your panel. If you want to browse ahead of time — to check coverage in a new market before you start placing there — use the provider directory.
Are same-day appointments available?
Yes. Many providers accept same-day and walk-in appointments for common services like drug testing and breath alcohol testing. When you place an order, the platform shows real-time scheduling availability — so instead of calling clinics to ask, your team sees open slots immediately and picks the fastest option.
Does BlueHive offer on-site or mobile testing?
Yes. BlueHive coordinates on-site and mobile testing for employers who need services at their workplace, job site, or remote location. This is especially common for post-accident testing, large-scale pre-employment screenings, random testing events, and locations far from fixed provider sites. Contact our team to arrange mobile services for your needs.
I'm a provider — how do I join the BlueHive network?
Healthcare providers can apply to join the BlueHive network at bluehive.com/providers. After verification of credentials and capabilities, you'll be able to receive orders, process results, and get paid through the BlueHive platform. BlueHive helps providers grow their occupational health revenue by connecting them with employers actively seeking services in their area.

How does BlueHive work for providers?
Providers receive occupational health orders from employers through the BlueHive platform. Orders arrive via email or the provider portal with patient information and service details. BlueHive handles all the employer-side coordination, letting providers focus on patient care.
How and when do providers get paid?

BlueHive handles all employer invoicing and collections, so providers don't need to chase payments. Detailed payment reports are available in the provider dashboard.
What are the requirements to join the BlueHive provider network?
Providers must hold valid state licenses for the services they offer and meet BlueHive's credentialing standards. For DOT services, providers must employ FMCSA-certified medical examiners and use SAMHSA-accredited laboratories. All providers must agree to BlueHive's quality and turnaround-time standards. The onboarding process includes credential verification and platform training.
